Having Spent Sometime in the Mecca recently.. I Can say for Sure. Pan not in Danger. I attended a Steelband Symposium in the Oval Re - Invaders 75th Anniversary headed By Mrs. Jeannie Remy and was Pleased to See that there are Plans to take Pan to a Higher Level.

CH, if U listen carefully to the song pan in danger, it is about the art form in danger of being taken away from us, pan is in hiding right now so to speak, as a result of the ABUSE of IT, it's inventor, innovator's, and other contributors, and the only right's Trinidad & Tobago will have is it's birth right, just like the"piano" which was invented by "clavichord ", of Yogoslavia in the 16 Century, as we speak those ownership right's could be in the possession of another country, I'll disclose more later...
FOR THE RECORD!!!! PAN IN DANGER is one of my favorite calypsos of ALL TIME. If anybody has the VCR of CARIB TOKYO moving off stage on Carnival Day playing that song they should listen to it again ... and again. It is the most wonderful piece of PAN ON THE GROUND (now Cecil will call me a hypocrite) I have ever heard. And I will go further to say that it was the first time (in my life) that I ever consciously heard DRUGS in the music. (I could expand on that if anybody is interested but I leave it at that for now.)
However, as much I like the lyrical structure of that song and Merchant's economy of words and compression of statement that occurs multiple times in the song ... the story line was nothing but PARANOIA and PROPAGANDA as already posted and discussed on this forum.
The threat of SWEDEN (White People) teefing the PAN was pure ignorance. The truth is that -- today, decades later -- Swedish pan lovers cannot even find a FUNCTIONAL PAN to import from Trinidad -- much less to start already setting up PAN FACTORY to MANUFACTURE we OWN CULTURE.
All that being said, this is still one of my favorite calypsos.
This panorama musical joint by Fonclaire, arranger by "Professor" and "Wire" remains one of my all time favorites , and reminds us in the words of the Grand Master that "Pan here to Stay".
