Panmen and Panwomen must open their eye NOW ....

I have a BIG question without the use of the electronic Pan what is the benefit of the Indigisounds software to the panman or panwoman ?. As I see it 99% of panmen/women can't play the KEYBOARD so ????.Now I am very happy that a Trinidadian (David) has done this work but as long as Panmen/women don't get their act togather the Keyboard player will take ALL the JOBS away from the steelpan player. So we Panpeople continue to fight down each other and all the FOOD going through the back door ..... lol lol lol .

Ghost Who Knows The E-Pan Is Not A Steelpan. It Is Not Of The Idiophone Family; It Is An Electrophone. (Know your musical instruments, before making wrong assumptions!)

  • Let's open the other eye. WST member, Sandra Blood, is one of Trinidad and Tobago's top bass pan players. Bass pan players are the most beautiful thing to watch, ans they twist and turn their bodies to maneuver around notes that are spread out over four or more pans. As a young man, I used to admire Sandra as she bounced her sticks from note to note, sometimes turning a full 360 degrees, as she returned to her original position. There is NOTHING like a steel pan bass, and even the great Jaco Pastorius became a fan of the acoustic instrument. Granted, they are extremely difficult to mike, but the timbre of that range of the "pan family" is unique, and could never be duplicated. The method of playing a bass pan is an art unto itself. The reality is, no matter how close to a bass pan the E-Pan may sound, the latter can never have the same effect it had on Scrunter when he sang, "I was standing, by de Grand Stand, up in de Savannah. Digging dis Indian girl, playing bass pan..."

Ghost. (The "haunting" continues...☺) You all can go ahead and cuss me now.

  • If I may...EXCELLENT points, Glenroy. For those who do not take the time to read what I post, I am not beating up on Salmon Cupid. I, like most if not all, applaud him for his vision when it comes to the use of electronics synthesizers and controllers. Where we differ is in its use in Panorama. That was the extent of our objection. Salmon Cupid was invited to my home on two occasions, not for what he could do for me, but what I could do for him. (Look at the facts.) He chose to libel my name by stating that I am on welfare and that I work at a carwash, NONE of which is true. He got personal with me, going into the privacy of MY FAMILY ARRANGEMENT, something that I have NEVER done to ANY of you. SIDD was the first to do this to me; befriending me under his real name, Steve Taylor, only to spy (mako) on me and my family. He also brought my family into the WST discussions. As far as the racist "milk" reference by King Idiot, I have also stated my non-racist views. I see only ONE "race", the Human Race, and the illiterates in their ignorance, fail to understand why I bring race into the discussions. I have close friends of EVERY HUE, and my (adopted) "sister" is 100% Chinese-Trinidadian. They LOVE, RESPECT, and ADMIRE me, because they realize I am honest, I speak my mind, and am not an "Uncle Tom Negro", or what Cro Cro calls a "lick-bottom African". Finally, ALL my comments related to the E-Pan and Salmon Cupid, have been topic-related, and the ONLY time I got personal and disrespectful to him, is when he crossed the line. I am a very patient and methodical person, and everyone on this WST forum will get to know the truth. It is being revealed as THEY speak, for in their words of racial hate, they tell more of themselves than they do me. Like the milk-spewing King of Idiots. Because I came from a woman's womb, I respect ALL women, REGARDLESS of "color"! So when they try and twist what I post, please go to the source, and not the horse or the jackasses braying on behalf of the horse.

  • In our band we promote the organic sound of the Pan. The natural sound made from the drum combined with the application of musicology, packaged and present with a certain style (Pan Couture). Our clients prefer this to all the other combinations which I tried and tested in the early days. There is an appetite for quality ensembles at events and parties and when you put 3 or 5 good musicians together, sometimes the audience members will come up and look underneath the Pan to see if there is anything else creating the sounds. With an electronic instrument performing, it's obvious to them and there is no curiosity. Check this brief rendition of Brazil with my band playing as a 5 piece band (3 Pan players, drum kit and congas).

    • Bigsands, you're right back to my original point, About the mystique of the accoustic pan.
      Electronics negates that mystique.

And. I knew that people would inspect the pans back in the early days for mikes, wires etc., but I did not know that they were still doing it today.

That in itself says a lot.

And there is no need to beat up on Salmon Cupid. We should credit the young man's ingenuity. He has created an instrument that definitely has its uses -for the profrssional musician, teacher, arranger, composer, even for the home user.
But never as a replacemenr for the accoustic pan, especially in the steelband.

And what hasn't been said is that the e-pan needs a viable accoustic steel pan around for the e-pan to be relevant in the world of music.
Without the steel pan as a reference, I doubt that the e-pan will remain relevant.
  • Fellow Members, I know this topic we are on now is hot and heated but MR Keith Marcelle needs help and he respect this FORUM by saying,

We need all the help we can get and when I say we it  not only means USSA but  Pan in New York

Please Support his article; HOW CAN WE SAVE PAN IN NEW YORK, We only have 1 week and some days, give your thoughts and imput so Keith can take back to his meeting, most of us cannot be there, thks WST Members

  • There he goes spinning again. Obviously this dinosaur can hardly read and comprehend. The FACT is I am among those who say PAN, and NOT E-Con Pan will NEVER DIE. And I am also one who adamantly say that the ORIGINAL STEEL DRUM, that came from African skin drum, to tamboo bamboo drum, to steel drum, could NEVER be threatened by ANY electronic plastic replica! (Tamboo comes from tambour, which means "drum".) And I referred to a Baby Grand not being threatened by any keyboard synthesizer. I even compared what we now call steelpan or pan, to the Mona Lisa with her "imperfect smile". (Why am I even going through this?) To the contrary, compare the comments of the E-Con Pan's "raving fans" (to quote the "inventor"), such as those by Steve "SIDD" Taylor and Claude Gonzales, who have sentenced our "National Instrument" to sure extinction, because the E-Con Pan is here! lol. Finally, this King of Idiots has NO respect NOR intelligence, for if he DID, he will see that the ONLY objection that we posed, was the use of ALL electronic "instruments" and gadgets in Panorama, and whether one disagrees with that or not, there is NO reason to insult a grown woman on the world wide web! This forum has over 10K members, and this excuse of a man, OWES her (CATT) an apology. PERIOD!!! King? No...IDIOT!!! (Learn to comprehend the English language, and know your place before you jump into discussions you were NO PART OF. (And if you understood English, you would know that my last sentence was "grammatically incorrect".) APOLOGIZE TO THE LADY! Cuss me instead; your words mean NOTHING to me. You illiterate! That's the problem with this forum; a lot of talk, and when one of our women getting verbally abused, we sit back in "appalling silence". (To quote MLK.) Let it had been the Ghost who made those statements to Ms. CATT, and you would have seen the board light up!!! (Bunch of double-standards, and egos afraid of facing the truth. smh.)

    Ghost. Cuss me...King? No; Idiot.

    • ohmygosh, this now the 2nd time this has been said (got a private FB message about it too) and i thank you.

I have not yet been back to read the replies to my comments, and now, I think I won't.  I have seen some of the responses to you, Ghost, so i can only imagine the personal vitriol -  i think i probably don't want to know.

And really, personal attacks say nothing about the one on the receiving end - what they REALLY show, is the low mentality of the person doing the insulting.

My policy is not to argue on the www, it's just senseless. In any case, I no wanna get pissed off and say something I maybe shouldn't, so probably best that I not even look. Hehe.

Anyway, what other people think of me is not my business. *I* know who I am, and so do those who know me.

      • Good Sun Day morning, CATT. I just wanted to share some historical perspective as to who this Fink is, and just how hateful and racist his comments are:

So, I posted the "Blueprint", which came to me after Eric Mannweiler's asking me what I thought would be good for the steelband movement. In respecting Eric (a White American) as a colleague, I gave it some thought, and the rest is "Blueprint" history. (NOTE: Since then, I have included an EOE clause.):

        https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150125395488690&id=...

In response to one of King Idiot's disrespectful and illiterate comments, I posted this reply:

        https://www.facebook.com/notes/george-d-goddard/is-this-king-a-fink...

Because, I helped him in exposing his prejudicial and asinine mindset, he took offense, and has been NOTHING but offensive ever since. Those are the facts, and the evidence is there. They may try and spin my words, and some may be fooled, but the proof is there, and posterity will record on which side of this cultural battle we ALL stand and defend. So, self-proclamations and self-coronations may feed his ego, but that's the extent of it. He is a self-admitted illiterate, and we should expect nothing less coming from his degenerate mind. He has no soul and is spiritless. Just a grumpy old uneducated fart, with no respect for anyone, including kings. If he had any courage, he would post his real name, and not hide behind a title not befitting of him. He has libeled my name, and that seems to be a common behavior of anyone that is a "raving fan" of E-Con Man, Salmon Cupid, the Stupid. They will soon learn a lesson in civics and tort law...stay tuned. The E-Shit about to hit the E-Ceiling fan. lol.

Ghost Who Is More Fired Up And Ready To Go Than E-VER Before!!!

  • I can't agree that this will take ALL the jobs away from the steelpan player.

People (outside of the pan sphere) always approach me, seeking steelpan musicians for a variety of functions. These people not only seek to HEAR steelpan, but they also seek to SEE and FEEL the steelpan. It's a full package. They want the steelpan experience.

If they just wanted to hear steelpan sounds, they could very easily purchase one of the many steelpan cds that contains the music of their choice. It's not just about the audio. The visual provides a big component.

Yes, I'm referring to gigs that require live musicians. I'm not referring to studio work. I don't know that world and I'm almost sure that's another animal in itself.
