In and earlier post about the  difference between TRIPOLI amplified band and HIGHLANDERS amplified pans, PATRICK  RAMDOO said bring the history, at the end of the day, it must have been a bad idea, where is it today . Could someone enlighten him on the progress pan has made in electronics since the attempt was made by TRIPOLI and HIGHLANDERS in the fifties and sixties. There will always be improvement and changes, we used to play pan rolling on the ground now we playing pan on trucks. panorama prelims used to be on the drag now its in the panyards, Long before we were born  there were computers., for example we had a type writer, paper,  camera file folder and cabinet that was the computer of long ago then it was all put together and named the computer. every thing has a beginning where pan is now electronically, did it begin with the efforts of amplification with TRIPOLI and HIGHLANDERS ?. NUFF SAID. BLESSINGS TO ALL.

  • Ellie Mannette once said, "as an innovator you have to think someone else will come and do it better."  Yamaha was able to reap the benefits $$ off their experiment. Credit should be given to Salmon Cupid for the progress made to day....

    • Best drum solo on pan. Good invention, but where is the pan? I've got a keyboard that can accomplish the same things. Where is the pan?
      • Patrick Ramdoo: Yuh giving TROUBLE, yuh know.  Mugabe on the prowl, so watch yuhself!!!

        • Claude, some people will give you SH** to eat and tell you it's chocolate. I don't eat chocolate.
          • patrick ramdoo, the pan is what you HEAR, this instrument enables the player to sound like other instruments, something you cannot do on a pan, but if you sit on ah pan and play one ah these instruments you have the ability to do more.

            • I can do the same on a keyboard, which I use presently. I also have real pans (double secs) which I use. I'd rather have the pan without the E.
            • Well, Mr. Hinkson: You take the PAN to the RECORDING STUDIO (make sure you have a well-tuned PAN and a good visionary player) and you hire PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS to play the OTHER INSTRUMENTS (authentic instruments) and you produce a WORLD CLASS CD with PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS surrounding the PROFESSIONAL PAN PLAYER.

Your SONG SELECTION is critical; so you really have to think hard about that.

The E-PAN cannot turn the PAN MAN into a MUSICIAN -- which is the SALES PITCH for the instrument. SALO is an excellent PAN PLAYER and he has all the access in the world to the E-PAN (I think he actually invented it) and it is not helping him put out any DECENT MUSIC.

So what if it can imitate every other instrument in the world? You still need MUSICAL TALENT and MUSICAL VISION.

Allyuh distracting meh from thinking about the SECOND STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP RING this morning.

              • So by you logic it's ok for a keyboard to sound like a pan but you have problems with Epan sounding like a keyboard, that even sound silly.

    • Salo doin it like ah BOSS.

      • Salo needs to produce a GOOD CD with that instrument. SO MANY INSTRUMENTS and ZERO DECENT RECORDED MUSIC!!!
