I recommend listening with a good pair of headphones. A beautiful piece of music. Whilst I'm not 'taking away' anything from Deltones performance, I had to cup my ears, close my eyes, mentally blank away the distraction around me to not just being able to hear but listen to this creation.
Had this music been played with say Skiffle Bunch instruments I guarantee you 'Zanda' would have been in 7th heaven instead of 7th berth.
As far as I'm concerned, Starlift's performance was the surprise of the day. Mr Liam T did a fantastic job in not only coming up with a refreashing arrangement but he was able to get what could have only been 80 -90 players to execute what was definitely an off the wall arrangement. The guitars and cellos complemented the riffs with what could only be described as Cavalier-esque interchange. Probably not heard since the mid 60s.
A lot of work still needed to get close to perfection but the foundation is no doubt there.
I also enjoyed Invaders' performance. It was just a pity they were handicaped in my mind by choosing the same composer as last year which meant the tune would always be compared with his previous offering, Tell Dem.
I will continue to play what I've captured and hopefully grow to appreciate the differences each band brought to the party.
As far as the judging was concerned, what can anyone say? It is a pity they limit it to 10 bands because they should all be in the final if only as a recognition for the hard work and dedication.
Thats why I think the panorama CDs and DVDs should be of the semis not just the finals.
Remember "You Be The Judge CDs in 2005?"
Remember "You Be The Judge CDs in 2005?"
EXACTLY! i've been saying the same thing since 2005 & wondering why they don't do every year like that? I too feel the cd's/dvd's should include the semis performances of the bands that were not in the final.
I Challenge PAN TRINBAGO or ANY PANORAMA JUDGE TO TELL ME DIFFERENT..
Judging of panorama (esp. Large bands) are based on the following:
1. Crowd response
2. Your NAME
3. ANTICS (Everything else but the arrangement) which they try to disguise under Performance
4. Previous Years issues (band get thief last year, we owe them this year)
5. Play whatever you play the year before ( we didnt hear it properly then)
Based on the above criteria the scores of the Semi-final are much more accurate!!
PANORAMA MAY NOT DIRECTLY BE KILLING PAN, BUT ITS AGENTS (PAN TRINBAGO & JUDGES ARE)
wait!!! hold the press...
Has anyone notice Phase II had e-Pans on the stage. I may be wrong but aren't those amplified and use speakers to replicate the sound.
The next point is... the e-Pan can also play different octaves.. so there is no telling if it was used as a tenor or Chellos on the night.
I am all for innovation but that in itself is a greater acoustic advantage over a smaller band or one not as close to the judges to improve sound clarity.
