Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - After weeks of negative speculation, the fate of the financially-troubled International Soca Monarch franchise has been decided and was announced at a press conference yesterday.

The 2018 Play Whe International Soca Monarch finals will be held on ‘Fantastic Friday’, February 9, at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain, and the winner of the competition will take home a grand prize of $ 300,000.

Details of this ‘scaleddown’ version of the musical showcase were revealed by Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts chairman Peter Scoon, at Hyatt Regency hotel. In his address, Scoon described the competition as ‘the Grammys of Soca’ and ‘one of the main platforms for artistes in Trinidad’.
