Opinion Piece

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, WI: Today, in this age of National Steel Orchestra / National Steel Symphony, Pan in Schools, the E-pan, the G-Pan, the PHI, the National Youth Steel Orchestra etc; one is still left to wonder in the land of the birth of the Steelpan, if we are coming or going.
Could you imagine in today’s world, any man with money taking a woman for a wife, living with her for years, and just because she is no longer a Miss TnT (Trinidad & Tobago) - he could discard her for another beauty queen just so without any proper settlement, and she is not protected by the laws of the land?

I don't agree with Mr. Joseph. The bands have to sign a contract with sponsors that outline what the responsibilities are of both parties and the length of the agreement. Once the agreement has expired. The companies owe the bands nothing.
The other thing is that sponsors don't give money away for nothing...they expect something back in return. If a band is doing well (making it to the finals, etc.), the sponsor will have their products advertised on national television and have their products advertised in homes across the world via DVD. However, if a band doesn't make the finals and is not recorded...there is nothing much to gain for the sponsor.
