THE FUTURE OF PAN

The argument can be made that every year is de same ole ting dey pushing. From the George Goddard era to the present day pan has been dealt a very serious blow to its existence. Some of its most known and respected pioneers have been treated with utmost disrespect over the years and today they try to make up for this with a few national awards here and there to mammaguy grown men and women and increasing prize money for a compettition that spells the death of pan. It's time to take it back and change it's direction. • I agree: what solutions do people suggest? I would say we need to create more opportunites for soloists and small groups to perform in a non-competitive envirnonment.
    • Good idea, but what I think needs to be done is what Sidd has been saying all along...that we need to look at pan from a business perspective instead of a lime. It's the same thing with Calypso music, we need to start looking at things in terms of business...it's really shocking, when you really look at things now. Now when I say "we", I mean all pan associations world wide and pan soloists who are looking for opportunities...much more can be said, but I will leave it at that for now.
