Dr. Kim Johnson, an Anthony N. Sabga Laureate for Excellence in Arts & Letters (2011),

is one of TT's foremost historians of the Steepan Culture.

Johnson, a UWI graduate, has been Senior Research Fellow at

The Academy for Arts, Letters, Culture and Public Affairs at The UTT, and

now functions out of The Carnival Institute of TT, 45C Jerningham Avenue,

Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad, TT.

  • I enjoyed the interview with Dr Johnson, it's always a pleasure to hear Historians talk of the origin of the steelpan/steelband,

    however I think when they say a lot of different people contributed to it's development they should point out the majority was Afro Trini, that's my opinion.

    When asked by a caller about the steelband being at a cross road his answer was something like , it is past the cross road, this is troubling to see that we did not take care of the steelband some are even saying it's on "life support" this is sad.

    Lets get together and put the steelbands back on the road .
