Comparing the results from the start of the panorama competitions, this was not the history making results I was expecting, here again history is an indicator of what can be expected in the future.
For the first time in history of Panorama competitions or shall we say in the last decade. This has happened, third place ties that include three winners.
2015 3rd place tie Renegades, Exodus and Silver Stars
http://www.panonthenet.com/history/past_panorama_results.htm
1970 3rd place tie Invaders and Silver Stars
1971 1st place tie between Harmonites and Starlift
1985 1st place tie Renegades and Desperadoes
1989 2nd place tie Phase 11 and Fonclaire
1991 2nd place tie Renegades and Fonclaire
1993 3rd place tie Trinidad All Stars and Exodus
1996 3rd place tie Exodus and Desperadoes
The questions to ponder and a challenge to the powers that be Pan Trinbago, is the competition dying a slow death, lacking innovation or product development?

With you, Char!! The whole judging system needs to be pulled apart and inspected. Who's overseeing the judges? And in reference to the consistent 'ties' that are more the norm than the exception, is the criteria for judging so vague that it doesn't allow for tie-breakers? AND. how does anyone know that each steel band is complying with the number of players allowed? There needs to be a systematic way of verifying all of this so that the 'playing field' is even and fair. It's extremely discouraging and we could see some fallout from the players and arrangers alike who may perceive that no matter what level of effort they put out, what's the use, when the competition seems to be only between All Stars and Phase 11, and the other aspect of this is that these two bands can assume that they'll be at the top anyway, so why bother to put forth their finest efforts?? 'Nuff said!!
At the Semi Finals, all the other bands must bring their A game in order to qualify for the Finals except All Stars and Phase2, and anything and any how these 2 bands play they are in the Finals, that is not fair to the Rest.
Char Burgess, I certainly enjoy reading the comments on this Blog. But I believe your contribution went a little over board in using the word "DIE"in regards to Boogsie and Smooth. Don't you think so?
Hamilton, I don't think that Char Burgess meant to use that Word in a Malicious way, what he is saying is that it seems that the Judges Give those 2 Arrangers Favorable treatment, Which I also tend to believe, The past Records Speak for themselves. .
No wonder the young are totally uninterested in Pan"....is the competition dying a slow death???? ABSOLUTELY if we continue encouraging judging like this. It must have been TOTALLY DISHEARTENING to bands with young players like Renegades, Silver Stars, Exodus and Fonclaire to be so entertaining and musical to be judged yet again as not good enough against the BORING technical virtuosity of TAS and Phase. I despair for Carnival Panorama .......lets just cancel it all together and just have a Music festival where all bands can play boring compositions without the life and excitement of Carnival and done with it!!!!
Everybody can't win and nothing is wrong with bands tied. If the system is flawed, arrangers who complain should start making changes for 2016 soon after Ash Wednesday.. Get together and develop a system so they too will be satisfied with the results. On the other hand, not sure if the government will allow this, since they (government)are the ones putting out all the money for these pan shows and may want to stick with their judges.
odw, the North Stand was almost empty last night, WHY?
I watched the results on TV when they announce Pan Elders won there was elation from people around, when they announce All Stars won the place was silent, WHY?
The Ruling Governing Body of Pan is running on empty, new ideas are needed for the survival of the art-form.
Cecil, I have to admit that I am not an All Stars fan, and I think that their Panorama performance left most listeners a bit bemused. To my mind there were a series of musical ideas that were well played, without a doubt, but they seemed to me to have no connection to one another.
I believe Panorama is still a music competition and this should be the overriding factor when judgement is made. An idea may be to build a spreadsheet of the judges and the winners since the first Panorama and it may be that patterns could come to light, I don't know. Maybe we need to have a wider pool of judges who can be rotated from year to year. I honestly think that there are very few individuals born and bred here in Trinidad & Tobago, who will not have a favourite band or arranger. So there we are.
