  • Um, um, um!!!! As a life skills advisor to St Margaret's Boys Anglican School, I have seen how through the use of pan, many of our students who are viewed to be at-risk based on either being born into and/or simply developed in the quarters of many adverse situations have sored to great heights, excelling both socially and academically.

Why can't ALL these easily disturbed young people find their way to a panyard and make some worthwhile of their lives?

Should that be the case, Akeem would have been alive today moving with time like others to enjoy Christmas and no doubt, another beautiful Panorama season.

My heart goes out to his respective families - home and St Margaret's Boys.

I recall having interacted/communited with Akeem, and his other pan mates from before they touched the instrument. It is so sad working so hard in tandem with his pan director, Rosemary Abraham Std 5 teacher; principal and parent to bring our young males to a level of dignity, pride and integrity, and to see it all disappear in a wink of an eye owing to a weak and devil-infused mind, words cannot describe.

And it so ironic, that pan took me away from my country from Dec 21st, to another, Carriacou, in the quest to assist the Local Government Ministry with using pan to help their students as they cite the value to life, and I read this sad news today.

    Please stay strong!

We will all play sweet pan and rejoice when we meet again
