TT’s $M music industry

THE LOCAL music industry generates $169 million annually and employs 5,600 persons, while Carnival generates the most revenue within the music/entertainment sector, producing $154 million and employing over 3,500 persons.

This according to Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment Vasant Bharath as he spoke at a breakfast seminar hosted by the Copyright Organisation (COTT) at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of- Spain.

Bharath noted that the core economic activities of the local music industry included music production, music publishing, live performance, as well as the manufacture and sale of steel pan instruments. However he added that there were also a number of essential support services that were essential for the effective functioning of the industry.
