Bio Wayne “Birdie” Kirton

Born on August 1st 1947 in Belmont, Trinidad and Tobago he attended Queens Royal College and was an original member of Q.R.C. Jazz Club, an original member of Gemini Brass and also a member of Rockafella Combo.

He recorded with Andre Tanker, Super Blue, Dakota Stanton, Mighty Sparrow, Explainer, Swallow, Poser and many other artists. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. He also arranged for Invaders USA.

  • Mr Kirton or Birdie as we called him played along with Blenman Senior Center steel band on many occasions the last about one year ago for the funeral of Alston Jack out then teacher and friend of “birdie””. A gentle soul . May he Rest In Peace and rise in glory .

  • I met Wayne Kirton in the summer of 1975 when I was doing some music for Modern Sounds in Boston, Massachusetts.  He wrote an introduction for one of my calypsoes and we ended up winning the 1975 Boston Panorama competition.  I was very impressed with his musical talent.  I never saw him again.  My condolences to his family.
