THE ROOTS of OUR MUSIC are used in a MILLION WAYS by MUSICIANS around THE WORLD. Starting with THE ANDREW SISTERS and RUM AND COCA COLA and continuing on for decades up to today.

But OUR PRODUCERS never PRODUCE THE VERSIONS that make all the MONEY ON THE OUTSIDE -- The FOREIGN EXCHANGE and ALL THE LOCAL CREATIVITY and GENIUS that they write about every day never materializes.

I will summarize the problem as: NOT KNOWING but NOT KNOWING that you DON'T KNOW.

Ah hear that when you go to AA the first thing they make you say is: I AM AN ALCOHOLIC!!! And after you admit that you have a problem then they try to help up solve it.

Well, dem TRINIDAD MUSIC PRODUCERS have to wake up one day AND ADMIT that they DO NOT KNOW how to make music for GLOBAL AUDIENCES and then look for remedies. But when you have people calling them musical geniuses all the time -- how could they slow down their egos long enough to listen.

Just look at that HIGHLY EDUCATED economist (like so many others) falling in the WE SO TALENTED TRAP.

All the LOCAL MUSIC PRODUCERS have to do is to clear their heads (smoke a joint or something) and LISTEN to what the FOREIGNERS do with our BEATS. But they have to listen without the local arrogance and bring a BLANK MIND to the process. And they may come to hear the very subtle changes that are embedded. Those little tweaks to the rhythm and melodic lines -- make all the difference in the world. (Plus I would not waste my time if I do not have a HIGH QUALITY VOCALIST -- and that is a BIG PROBLEM down IN THE MECCA.)

And the best way to understand it is for a few LOCAL PRODUCERS to put their heads together and conceive a music project designed for the FOREIGN MARKET. And then bring down an AVERAGE AMERICAN MUSIC PRODUCER to show them the LITTLE MODIFICATIONS they need to make to appeal to GLOBAL AUDIENCES.

Just a PILOT PROJECT as we dream about producing WE TING to grab a slice of that $19,000,000,000 (NINETEEN BILLION DOLLARS) spent last year on the GLOBAL MUSIC INDUSTRY. And don't talk about ROYALTIES!!!

Of course, we also need a good marketing plan. But the EXPAT COMMUNITY could lend a very BIG HAND in that area.

    • the biggest music market is in north america & no matter how good our music is until an american like Narell takes a tune & goes on billboard or cash box, we will never make wordlwide. bossa nova existed 4 years,so did mambo, merengue, rhumba etc. when stan getz & charlie byrd played bossa nova it reached d world & people began to hear about astrud gilberto, antonio carlos jobim, luiz bonfa & others.when perez prado & mongo santa maria went to d u s  & began playing in clubs there then their music took off. even jazz & rock & roll which was played 4 years by black americans ,only came 2 d fore when d white musicians took it over. elvis presley was dubbed d king of rock & roll in deference to men like chuck berry & little richard who pioneered that genre long b4 presley.when they take it over it will make.no matter what we do down here nor how good it is, we do not have d tools nor d market.trinbago is d only place where 4 its size & population so much music is produced on a yearly basis.so much so dat the foolish local radio stations doh like 2 play music from last yr or yesteryear during d current year.radio stations in north america still play nat cole, fats domino etc.
