Cecil. Right now the Government is in a De lima in whether to Postpone or not. I think that the Government still have a Little Time in Making that Decision. I think that First and foremost is the Health of Our Citizens. They cannot put a Prize on Our People's Life. I believe that by Mid November if the Ebola is still around and goes on unabated then by All Means they Should Cancel it. Its Better to be Safe than Sorry. Our Nations Health Should always be Their First Priority. Ebola is More Bad John than them Gangs in T&T. Who Vex.. Vex.
My view is that before we even think about what the government can do, we must first put our house in order.Considering what is the purpose and mission of the governing body !PANTRINBAGO. Since the formation of this organization looking back have STEELBANDS progressed the way it should? and why ? it can be argued that Government has always contributed to the well being of the Steelbands by way of finance over the years. The question is did the people who were in charge of these funds in anyway planned for the future progress of the Steelband movement when they did their budgeting ? in addressing this question if we do not stop this dependency on blaming Government for our incompetence and come to the reality that we must come together and work for the future and progress of the movement and stop the ignorance that some of us posses believe me this is the only way I see us going forward there must be unity then and only then we can approach any government to get the necessary help needed in mission it must be clear and define and I do believe this can be achieved Blessing my fellow members. emond berkeley, your points are well taken. Over the years the steelband put all their thrust in the governing body and look where they are today, battered and bruised, disillusioned, no self-worth, too weak to fight. Those the government funded exploited them.
You are correct the task at hand is getting our house in order, when and how do we start?

Thanks Cecil for your response you are also correct we have to start and the time is now.Lets take a look at our options . Do we have a united movement to begin with ? Is the movement and its members ready to put aside their different views and come together and brain storm a way forward? If any of these can happen then this is a good way to start but the will to come together is needed.

emond, if there is no WILL you die, most steelbands in the Mecca have no will. I think what is needed is supporters of steelbands involvement, there has to be a commitee with-in each steelband that look after the well being of the band, it will be the duty of this commitee to meet with other bands to discuss everything, from how they are being represented by the governing body to long term direction.
The task the steelband faces is difficult but not impossible, pan people in the Mecca have to get out of that "never again, that dead" mind set, too much negative vibes around the steelband.

When the steelbands have no faith in their Governing Body that's bad.
When the Governing Body brake their own rules that's sad
When the system allows them to get away with it that's chaos.

Cecil you are on point my brother however with the present leadership of the Governing Body it is very hard to accept their leadership, because of my personal experience I have no confidence in them bringing the Steelbands together right now it serves them well just the way it is.They look at all criticism whether constructive or not as a personal attack on their management with this in mine how could we go forward can you tell me ?

A Government which cares can do a lot, unfortunately we don't have one.
