This smacks of the Kings New Clothes. No one is willing to call it like it is these days. They all try to put a new twist on things.
I call shit "shit", not number 2 or any other nice name. DJ stands are exactly what they are. An alternative experience as you put it, for people who don't know anything about pan, calypso or real mas and more importantly cyar dance. This years carnival is all about inclusivity as BBC London TV was proud to proclaim on their 6:30 news but one told them to include pan and mas though.
Believe you me, Trinidad carnival is going the same way, if the last 2 years experience is anything to go by.
The DJ stands are now being promoted as an essential part of Notting Hill Carnival. Use this Carnival on BBC http://ning.it/1aIyKNG for an alternative experience.
Have to say, after looking at this on and off, for the past two hours waiting for "Carnival" in London, I agree with Randisc.....why is WST showing this?
