Mr.Sharpe has mastered the harmonics of the steelpan instruments. He also has a natural aptitude for structured improvisation(the basic elements of jazz). Boogsie Sharpe, de man musically razor sharp.
I too had the pleasure watching this young lady rehearse, this night she was tired, Boogsie was not there and she wanted to go home, I saw her spoke to a gentleman and he told her practice was not finished, she want back to her pan [under protest] and finish the night, I never saw her tired again, I guess she learnt that babies don't play pan.
I had the pleasure of seeing Aria rehearse. I knew she was good but "WOW!!!" her performance and stage presence ... I had no idea. More importantly, she clearly understands the intricacies and movement of the music. All of this after three months? I can't wait to see her on the big stage next year.
The Boss at work with his mystical music delivered by his loyal soldiers. Phase 11 won the 50th Anniversary Panorama, holds the record for winning Panorama by 20 points clear, the steelband to wi
n panorama with their own composition, Boogsie won all steelband categories in the same year.
Wayne she is a prodigy and so has many young pannists under the Maestro - Yohan is also one who has come a long way with the Phase. Sharpe just loves to work with young talented musicians.
Phase 11 truly a blessing to our steelband culture! Boogsie Rules!!!
My 10 yr old niece Aria Bartholomew was thrown into the panyard in December by her father who had previously attempted to play in the band (let's say that the spirit was willing but the body did not comply).
As he himself said. "I was not expecting all this".
Her previous exposure to pan was playing the drum set in her school's pan group.
She is also proficient on the djembe which was her instrument of choice before she was exposed to the pan.
There is a little girl child playing the Tenor/First pan in the front line near to I do presume one of the Samaroos right in the vicinity of where Boogsie is conducting ,,well I was astonished /surprised and must say a job well done by her, further I would say congrats to Boogsie and his entire ensemble ,,nuff respect and God Bless.
That's my little niece in the frontline. Would you believe this is her first time playing pan. 3 months under Boogsie and another pan prodigy is produced
