One of my pet peeves over the years have been calypsonians who've made records glowingly praising the steel-band, and yet didn't even include a token tenor pan solo in their composition. What is particularly galling is when a synthesizer is substituted for a pan.Few calypsonians have ever recorded supported completely by a steel-band.Legendary calypsonian The Mighty Spoiler(Theophilus Phillips) , who was born and raised in Princes Town Trinidad, was one of the first to do so.He died in 1960 at the peak of his career at the youthful age of of thirty four. Here is the Mighty Spoiler , backed by the Southern Symphony Steel-band, and "My Shadow"

Probably the Calypsosians felt that the music and sound of the Steel Band at that time was not comparable with the conventional instruments so the final product may not have been what they desired but if you listen to the SteelBand accompaniment here you would hear how "Smooth" and "Perfect" it fitted in with the diction and the Bass was exceptional. Thanks GRJ for yet another CLASSIC.
I will like to thank the innovators of When Steel Talk for educating me and so many others, about our rich cultures. Especially the Steel Pan. This forum is deserving of many awards. Thank you'll very much.

Elsworth James.
Spoiler is one of the rare calypsonians who recorded with a steelband.
One wonders why it wasn't done more often.
Of course, in this age of samplers and synthesizers, who knows?

Roots and Culture at its best....coming from the true archivist, and fittingly labeled Sir Glenroy of Pan.....
The Mighty Spoiler ingeniously, and humorously, explored many ordinary, everyday topics.
I hated my shadow cast at night by our kerosene lamp, the flame-cast image flickering with the breeze.
Sir Glenroy, thanks for posting the craft of another true Kaisonian backed by a real steelband.
