  The influence of Ray Holman on Goddard's music in the early years is quite obvious in this arrangement. What came to be known as the Woodbrook strum is also clearly audible.

  it is such a pity pellham if you reading this and the exodus members thtis is the real pellham here, this is what earned you the respect, I am hearing lines, we getting a flavour as well, Exo I was told that youn have been putting pressure on him from the get go, after all it was the dictatorship of the band on the arranger that had the band packing Ray Holman and hiring pelham finally it did not work last year, now you need to give him more elbow room it seems pellaham that you forgot how nice your music sounds slowed down steel band music is a chip not a jump after all musically speaking all the instruments are variations of the same voice and is all accoustic so if you want to play fast the music has to have a different format rather than the ones you have been using so far

  Top-of-the-line music.I sat in the North Stand that night and was totally blown away by this band. I remember telling myself that it was between 3rd World and Desperadoes. The results showed a different picture as 3rd World ended up in position 6. How on earth did this happen? I am still awaiting someone who could tell me.

  One the more infectious steelband recordings. Many will remember the band on Jouvert morning that year. I believe the theme was "Helter Skelter"

  3rd World - "The pride of St James" My heart will always belongs to this steelband as it was the first band I ever played for at the age of 10 -11yrs old. This was a true "family band" as everyone used to look out for me as a little brother- Doomdee they call me. Hearing the band on WST brings joy and happieness to me knowing this wonderful music will be shared with the rest of the world. And for all to know in the panorama that year: We were robbed!

  Musical content and not "gallery" was the hall mark of the entire steel band movement then. We really have to reflect and listen to what was developing in the past to move forward oftentimes.
