finger problems

hello, I have been playing the double seconds for close to two years now. I have been a pro drumset player for over 30 years. my question is in the past year I have developed finger pain on both of my first fingers on the side and first knukles. I know that I am practicing over two hrs a day on the pans and it is only when I play the pans that I develope the pain. What I want to know is if any pan players out there have had similar problems and what they have done to help the problem. Any answers I'm sure would help. Thanks Rick

  • I am  not a panbeater, but I am a personal trainer and former bodybuilding champion here in the USA.

The first thing you should do is to get a sponge ball, cut in half and squeeze it for about 2minutes, three times a day so as to keep blood circulation in your hands. For the pain there is a new rub called COBROXIN, which

is made with extract from the Asian Cobra venom. Rub it on vigorously four times a day and you will be

surprised how much relief you will get.. Good luck...allan.

  • There is something called Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. You should check that out too..
  • I think you have been trying to do so much in the two years so that you could feel accomplished that you hurt yourself unknowingly. You will now need to soak the fingers regularly to ease the tension after you practise. And....and.... you may wish to pay particular attention to how you hold the sticks. Sounds like you have a good grip, but not a good command. Do Not Squeeze Them. You may also wish to consider placing a light bandage around the damaged fingers in order to prevent further abrasion. Hope I was able to be of help, having taught players to gain command over their sticks, over time.
  • you might have the wrong tecnick
  • I like LENNARD's comment. Sometimes after a lot of physical exercise there is a build-up of lactic acid in the joints. A soak in epsom salts after your finger workout might just leach the excess lactic acid out of the finger joints the same as an epsom salts bath does out of other bone connections after a heavy physical workout.

  • You could also try soaking your hands with epsom salts in warm water for about 30 minutes (before and after you play). It sounds like an overuse syndrome.
  • Hi Rick if you are developing these problems, it could be because how you are holding the sticks is not in a relaxed way. If you are relax you can play for hours with out any kind of pain, hope this information is helpful
  • There can be a number of probabilities. Arthritis is one of them. It attacks joints that are overworked and weakened especially if too much pressure is applied to holding the sticks.
  • Drummer Ginger Baker of The Cream covered his fingers with rings.
  • bad circulation
stick the hands in ice water when u are thru
