Legendary New York Daily News executive John Campi, who retired from the paper after a storied half-century career, passed away Friday. The newspaper veteran was 75.
Campi — who left the paper just two years ago — died of cardiac arrest at the Hackensack Medical Center, according to family members.
During his 50-year run at the News, the paper’s former vice president and director of promotions became the face of the annual Golden Gloves competition, the liaison to advertisers and the impetus behind an assortment of innovative events.
