Did anyone see this interview? Notice the bass pans in the background? This percussionist/composer appreciates the unique tone that can only come from a bass pan. Oh how I long for the day when we (as a country) learn to truly value our national instrument, the way others do. And we wonder why, Trinidad & Tobago is in its current state. GOD gave us a gift, and we continue to take it for granted. A gift that could have lifted EVERY Trinidadian and Tobagonian out of poverty. A gift that continues to give, even if we choose to give it away. We did not just lose "Rum and Coca-Cola", we lost a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY! As we can see, pan is not in danger, only the survival of its history and national claim to its legacy. Hopefully, in our eagerness to share our "culture" with the world, we do not lose ownership to pan as well. (What do you think?)
FYI - Cliff Martinez toured and recorded with rock group, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, for three years, and the movie Sex, Lies, and Videotape, was his first soundtrack gig.

Pan'tum thanks for your comments. Though thought provoking, they are just comments.I do believe that something should be done about this and the preservation of Calypso and Soca and the other art forms coming out of Trinidad. What is the solution? Offer up a solution. Get the discussion going by giving a comment (which you did) and then proposing a solution. Rest assured, that I am in no way attacking you or what you have said.I wish that I had the knowledge and background that you obviously have to so eloquently express your opinion. Tell us what you would do or would like to see done.I am surethat the community of WST will get on this once we have somewhere to start.
Thanks
Thank you, Barry. If you refer to my previous postings, you would see that I do provide solutions, including a "blueprint" I published a while ago. Opening/encouraging "thought provoking" discussions is a part of the "solution". NEVER, underestimate the power of the word; for without it NOTHING happens! According to the Bible, there was no light, until (ironically) the "Word" said "let there be..." Oftentimes, it’s the agitation from words that bring about mobilization, propelling the apathetic member into action. As for my "knowledge and background", that's due in part to biological chance of me being born into the Goddard family, and part to my own desire for knowledge and self-discovery. I am NO different than you, my brother. I simply understand the process of turning a wish into a dream, into a goal, into a reality. Your wish to have my perceived resume, will become your reality, ONLY if you are sincere in your quest. More Power. And ABSOLUTELY no offense meant nor taken.
Pan'tum.
