I would just like to go on record as thanking everyone involved in the 2014 panorama. As you know, my band narrowly lost the title by 1 point, but retained the People's Choice title for the 3rd year in a row so there is some consolation there. More importantly, as a lover of pan and a fanatic of panorama, I am elated at the buffet of wonderful panorama music put out this year. I am going to enjoy sampling and digesting every single performance in the months to come. Not everything is about results, this is our culture and we need to overcome our own personal feelings and loyalties to appreciate every single note played. We must avoid tearing down and casting nasty personal insults at our brothers and sisters in the pan world, remember judges judge bands, not the bands themselves. Pan people need to support pan people because nobody else out there can do that for us. Congratulations Phase 11, Pan Elders, Supernovas, East Side and Pan Jammers. Enjoy the next 12 months, we get to do it all over again in 2015.

  • On behalf of the members of San Juan East Side Symphony, we would like to humbly thank you for the well wishes to all champions.

    A response to your discussion:

Not only do pan people need to support pan, but Trinidadians need to support pan better than other nations do.

    Keep an eye on China.

The steel pan is quickly becoming an international marketed instrument because of its unique design and sound. Foreign households just wants to own one for display in their homes. Trinidadians do not realize that the steel pan instrument is Royalty. Wake up folks, while we are "dropping" pan, Scotland is securing the pan instruments in controlled air settings.

  • Excellent statement by DJ.

  • I concur and well said DJ

  • Very well stated DJ. We will get there as more and more "band people" becomes "PAN PEOPLE"

We have "WE BAND" but must support "D other BANDS"

It would be also great if the big bands could play 3 to 4 other short pieces at their respective panyards. I have been told that today's Panorama pieces are much more complex than those in my time so bands do not have that luxury. However if we implore time management, 4 hours of QUALITY-practice is more productive than 6 hours in the pan yard.

The band that placed 3rd in the small bands category in 2014 rehearsed an average of 3 hours and not every day.

  • Excellent comments well said so often it's always negative among us as pan people so happy to see this I have to respond great work thank you for just saying this peace
  • Thanks DJ... I am with you on this
