The Dr., the Trinidad Guardian Newspapers, and unauthorized “borrowing”
Global - ....It has been brought to our attention that works of Dr. Jeannine Remy which were written exclusively for When Steel Talks (WST) upon our request - to share with our members and the Global steelband community, were “borrowed” by the Trinidad Guardian Newspapers on no less than two occasions without her expressed permission, and certainly without that of When Steel Talks. This “borrowing” and republishing has left Dr. Remy less than pleased.
And to all the WST members who have been inquiring, When Steel Talks has no formal or informal agreement with the Trinidad Guardian Newspapers as it relates to any copyrighted WST material.

What the Guardian did was low and inexcusable. The Guardian has a history behaving in this manner. They've done this to other people besides WST.

Hang on Bugs, I'm lost. I want to understand what Tony Blackman is talking about? I'm interested because what I've seen on wst on their news page (or inline news I think?) are like excerpts, a few intro paragraphs, (not the entire story) and then people can click and go read the stuff on the guardian, or express, or jamaican gleaner, or whatever part of the world the original story is from. That means that the site or publication where ever the story originated, gets credit with their name on top, and the link to see the whole thing. Tony, what exactly are you seeing? what I saw from the guardian issue, is that the guardian took entire stories from the wst site, and printed in the guardian. And that is when the copyright issues that Sandra is talking about must be respected.
Why couldn't the Guardian simply worked out a incensing agreement with WST or seek proper permission?

That's the question. How did it get there?
Who submitted it to the Guardian, or did the Guardian take it from somewhere?
