Today's Trinidad Daily Guardian reported that the $1000 dollar stipend promised to Trinidad and Tobago's 2011 panorama players have not been issued. Early this year Trinidad and Tobago panorama players chose not boycott the 2011 panorama over this same issue.

  • I never mentioned your name Ian as saying anything negative about Pan Trinbago. The persons know who they are.I welcome constructive criticism but just saying anything just because there is an opportunity to say something without in some instances knowing what is happening is not good enough for a forum like this. There are very enlightening contributions which are welcomed by the members of WST but some leave a lot to be desired.Love fo all.
    • Thanks Mac for the professional response.

    • Well said Anthony! It's like submitting your invoice after you have delivered your goods or services. We have to be more professional. Many times people wait for payments, expecting payments but after some long waiting, are told that their invoices were not forwarded to the people responsible for payments or the respective accounts Departments. This is a norm in the business world. You deliver and submit your invoice immediately or soon after. In the case of the stipends, the bands have to forward the names.

We normally quote for a job in our case a Gig/playout. When accepted as per quotation/contract and after playing as agreed, the invoice is then submitted. The invoice is then processed and payment is then made on that particular person's nane.

Processing 7,000 cheques is quite alot and the sooner the names are forwarded the quicker the cheques would be made available.

  • With all the millions spent on prize monies for various competitions; $1000.00 is nothing but a mere pittance. That paltry sum to be meted out to pan players who willingly gave of their time and talent for the upliftment of our nation's culture, is not even enough for an appearance fee. The stipend should be paid forthwith because the players need to encouraged and appreciated also. The prize pies of Carnival Competitions for 2011 were ridiculously, unevenly shared. Give the players their just dues plus a surprise bonus and next year seek to let good financial sense prevail by lessening the exhorbitant first prize purses and distributing more funds across the board.

  • Why do these members of WST make these allegiations without knowing the facts.First of all cheques are being made payable to the individual players and not the bands as players complained about not being paid their thousand($1000)dollars.Then Pan Trinbago cannot prepare the cheques without the bands submitting the names of the players. The cheques then have to be signed and sorted out and we have 7397 players.Pan Trinbago also guaranteed a thousand dollars to each player even though the Minister said eight hundred so that two hundred would have to be taken from ticket sales.Tickets were sold by PANVESCO the investment arm of Pan Trinbago. They(the tickets)were audited before being put out for sale and had to be audited after the panorama before the said ticket sales are handed over to Pan Trinbago so that the balance of money needed can be placed in the account for the players. In spite of all that Pan Trinbago is making every effort to have all that done before Easter. Some of these players should check their bands to find out if their list of players has been submitted to their respective regions.Hope this puts an end to all the misinformation.

    • I am on your side "Mac" I never stated anything negative about Pan Trinbago. As I stated, Pan Trinbago would have reported favourably to all the Steel Orchestras on the status of the $1000.00. The Steel Orchestras must have informed their members of same. The way I write, sometimes one has to read between the lines.

  • Pan musicians have not been paid because they are psychologically beaten, think poorly of themselves and have neither spines nor representation.
    • You go girl! Barbara the boss and I just came in. I will call tomorrow.

                                                                                                               Ian

  • I do not think that the Steel Orchestras in T&T are that callous. I am sure that the bands have already contacted Pan Trinbago, and Pan Trinbago has responded favourably. Without the Steel Orchestras Pan Trinbago does not exist and without Road Players panorama will never be. If Pan Trinbago is in receipt of the estimated $7,000,000.00 that is needed for payment of 7,000 pannist, then why have the Steel Orchestras not protested. And I do not mean talk, I mean a 7,000-man march on Pan Trinbago's Head Quarters.

  • I think it's time the pan players definitely start a union for current pan players only, to fight this sort of thing!!!  It's the only way they will ever have a voice as Pan Trinibago is nothing but a FRAUD!!!
