Love This One !!!!!
The invention of the steelpan was one of those spontaneous happenings that had many "fingerprints" on it, and I do not believe any one individual can take full credit for it.
However, this was a great calypso, and since Lord Kitchener is an entertainer, not a historian, I would allow him the benefit of poetic license.
Tune originally featured on Kitch's 1975 LP: Carnival Fever, arranged by Art DeCoteau.
We must authenticate and document any history of our art-form. I still hear reference on PA systems of Mr. Winston "Spree" Simon as being the maker of the steelpan. We cannot change what's written of the past, but we should create a forum of learning so that we will always give annoucers correct data.
