  • Sweet memories. This was the first and only year that I played with George Bailey. My brother repeatedly placed bets on english horse racing to raise money for us to play.

  • What a wonderful experience.  I grew up on Buller Street in Woodbrook, and spent many wonderful hours watching the costumes come from paper to 'life'.  George was always a source of encouragement to all of us youngsters in Buller, French, Gateger, all the way up to Roberts Streets.  Wow.... in '57 I was 12, and was in awe of 'Big Terry', 'Gog', 'Audie', and the men who wore the black and red of our football team, Providence.  It was a good year.

  • I remember the year this band won  the steel band that played for this band came from Belmont Rising Sun, I am a product of the Valley road , I was 13 years old

  • Wonderful picture! Hope it is in the National Archives.

  • Thanks for sharing. I was too young to remember this. I am impressed by the creativity and quality of the costume. Trinidad has been blessed with many very talented and gifted citizen and George Bailey was certainly one of them. His contribution to the culture is invaluable. My chest is bursting with pride. Thank you Sir George Bailey.

  • George Bailey (1935-1970) began his Carnival career by designing for Invaders Steelband in 1954 and 1955, then formed his own band with brother Albert and a few others associates. Sir George so nicknamed due to his personality and the high standard of his art, captured six Band of the Year titles. During his 15 years as a Carnival bandleader, George Bailey’s presentations won the coveted Band of the Year Award in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, and 1969 and the People’s Choice Award ten times in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970. One can only imagine the number of titles he would have added to his tally had he not passed away at such a young age in 1970.

  • Bertel, You are invoking the spirit of carnival past, I would guess the king is Terry Evelyn, do you have his pic when he played the fancy clown?
