TUCO has put a call to find out who is the best ever calypsonian wit a list of 50 names.My response was there has to be a specification of what is a calypsonian. Here's my definition. He/She has to write the lyrics, the music and perform the work. Once someone has to depend a ghost writer for calypsos that's a calypso singer.Also since many of the named singers, many of the 30s and 40s, have never been in a national competition, the many times a calypsonian won a calypso king or queen title cannot be considered.There can only one who fills that bill. The Mighty Kitchener, The Grand Master of Calypso who has consistently sung great calypsos since the late 40s.He has made road marches, and produced endless music for panorama.
