  • When Kaiso RULED music (all of music).  Yes, Broadway's Tin Pan Alley and the Hollywood song writers "rob we." Check out early Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Doo Wop (Frankie Lymon in 1957 acknowledged Calypso was on the same level as rock and roll), Motown (Jackie Wilson told Berry Gordy his music was calypso) therefore Soul music; and"Nesta" Marley told us he loved calypso; Fela must give props to its influence on him; and we know about its role in Ghana's "high-life"!  Calypso and the Blues are the parents of today's vibrations - Rap, hiphop and that which is to come.
  • I always considered Lord Pretender to be one of the best, this video proves it.
  • Of all the calypso performance videos I've seen posted on the web, this is by far my favorite.

Like Preedy said, when talking about the best of the best of the calypso genre, the ones who belong in the hall of fame, they can't leave out The Great Pretender's name.

And somehow the New York audience manages to create a real traditional Calypso Tent atmosphere.

    This is real kaiso.

    I love it!

  • true true. The Gov't / Entertainment Promoters should be re-directing prize money to the Extempo /Rapso genre and away from Power Soca/Jab Jab music that has inflitrated the Trinibago music culture.

Hey, 20 years ago that music was out there but in T&T we had enough local artists staying true to the traditional calypso. But we now have a new generation of artists who seem to embrace the outside influncese but this has, in my oprinion, lowered the standards.
  • KAISO!!!!
  • Lord Pretender is the grand master of extemporary lyrics, he is... in my humble opinion one of the greatest calypsonians Trinidad has produced. His compositions are put together extremely well and his delivery and music complements the lyrics perfectly. It's so true, they don't make them like him anymore...
  • Kaiso indeed!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I know that this is a pan site, but there is a connection between calypso and pan, and great performer such as the Great Lord Pretender deserve to be recognized and remembered here.
