In my opinion , the period from the mid nineteen sixties into seventies was the most progressive and exciting era in the history of Trinidad's music.The steelbands had reached maturity and dominated the road at carnival time , and were present in the dance halls and on the concert and classical music stages.Dance bands like Ron Berridge , Joey Lewis , Clarence Curvan, the Dutchy brothers , Bonaparte Brothers and others were playing and producing dance music of the highest quality , much of which has stood the test of time, and is pleasing to the ear even today.And then we also had the combos.They were young , imaginative , exciting and creative , experimenting with various musical ensembles and styles to entertain the youth of the day.One of the more progressive of the combos was the group Johnny Lee and the Hurricanes.They were a unique group that included the standard leading guitars, but with vibraphones and vocals.As a matter of fact , since local dance music in that era was dominated by instrumental music bands , they were one of the first of the dance groups to include a lead singer .One of their biggest hits was this well played , well arranged and moving song called "Wonderful Land".Today , this song cannot help but evoke a feeling of nostalgia for that glorious era , the music we enjoyed, and the land where it all happened.For everyone who was around in those days , and even for those who weren't, Here is the combo "Johnny Lee and the Hurricanes" from Trinidad and " Wonderful Land"
