  • the first international steelband competition

  • I was just looking at the line up for the World Panorama,And I was very much surprise to see that the two big guns that always running,1&2 in TNT Panorama,And yes I am speaking about All Stars and Phase 11pan grove.

These bands have the,You know what, to play All Stars is playing Curry Tabanca,And Phase 11 is playing Woman on the bass,Now please tell me,You going to a world Panorama and that is the tunes that you are going to play.

And if you all come in the first 5,the judges had a hand in that.

    • David De, I don't see anything wrong with playing Curry Tabanca and Woman on the Bass, these 2 tunes have more Texture that those modern tunes they calling Pan Tunes/ Pan songs, people caint even remember how the melody goes,

  • I guess there were no  restrictions on Tunes of choice. All Stars playing ''Curry Tabanca''..... A new arrangement?

    • That's right Ian, there's no restriction on tune of choice. As a matter of fact the only two (T&T) bands that are playing a tune they did not play before as far as I could see are Renegades and Phase II. That is not to say that bands that are doing repeats are not rearranging them - you might be hearing a 2015 remake of Curry Tabanca by All Stars, I don't know.

      • All Stars cyah come with old curry Boi.

  • Michael Marcano I am just trying to understand something...with one arranger that arranged for 4 different bands that will be taking part in this competition will there be a problem that is what I'm trying to find out..what in my statement is wrong?

    • Pandora look right under the heading of the rules Bede published in this forum and you would see in brackets the word, 'DRAFT'. I believe this document is what's causing the confusion. You will no doubt understand that the draft for the International Panorama was fashioned from the T&T National Panorama Rules and that is why 8.1 is there. However at the very first meeting the ICP secretariat held with participating bands, 8.1 was laid to rest - it never made it out of the draft stage. The approved rules for the International Panorama carry no such restriction - trust me on that.

    • I can see a problem (of perception) after the results - yes; but that would be one for the respective bands and not the competition per say. The thing is Pandora, if such a restriction is to be introduced it will have to be done in the future. A foreign based band (let's call them that for now) will then have the option to decide whether to use a new arranger in their respective home competition in the event they qualify for the IP, or use the contract arranger they currently work with and concentrate on winning their own competition and then either be debarred from the IP or do a new tune with a new arranger for the IP (that info must be common knowledge up front allowing bands time to plan their strategy). Keep in mind that all the foreign based bands participating in this inaugural event are not necessarily the bands the organizers wanted to have on board. The original idea I believe was to have the winning bands from each country, I think it has come down (in some cases - I'm not sure) to who are able to come to Trinidad winner or not. The T&T bands you will note are selected from the top places 2015 panorama as follows 6 large; 4 medium; 2 small
