  • @ A.L Lewis, Sorry about that, I was not finished and 7 different Steel Orchestras not 4 have back to back victories. Continuing,
Phase II/Len Sharpe also in 2005-2006. All Stars/Leon Edwards in 1980-1981 and 2011-2012.
Renegades/JitSamaroo is the only one who had the most back to backs and finally got the hat-trick.
    1984-1985, 1989-1990 and 1995-1996.
Ok I have one for you; which of those 7 has stopped others 4 times from getting a hat-trick. You can call me at (754) 779-7547. Thanks.
  • Hello Mr. A.L Lewis,
Today is Saturday and I am now seeing your Wednesday request. Sorry about that.
In 1986 a 3-judge panel was used and All Stars/ Leon Edwards "hammered" the panorama with 293 points out of 300. (293/300) will give you a percentage of 97.67.
In 1987 a 5-judge panel was used and Phase II/Len Sharpe won with 487 points out of 500. (487/500)=97.4

4 Steel Orchestras have won back to back with the same respective arranger.
    Harmonites/Earl Rodney 1971-1972.
    Desperadoes/Clive Bradley in 1976-1977 and 1999-2000. Phase II/Len Sharpe in 1987-1988 Exodus/Pelham Goddard 2003-2004, Silver Stars 2009-2010.
    All Stars
  • @ Ian Franklin - Since there is no way I can contest your stats, could you care, if possible, to clarify All Stars/Smoothe as having the highest winning percentage of 293 out of 300?

A possible addition to your already impressive list? - that being Renegades' win in '84 by 17.5 marks was a record held for 21 years when Ph 11 broke with their win in '05 by being awarded 20 marks more than Exodus into 2nd position.

Since the beginning of Panorama which band had the most occasions of having a hattrick (& by extension with the same arranger?)

  • Steve thanks, panorama finals is a mere 4 plus weeks away. However, I believe that Pan Trinbago will surprise us with spendor in 2013. No! do not laugh; I am sincere (lol)

  • I am hoping that Gov't/ PanTrinbago would understand how Important this 50 years of  Panorama is to T+T and the Pan World and have the occasion advertised with all the Decorations, Flags, Jerseys, etc. and that these items be made available for purchase both here and abroad. In August of 2012 we all Celebrated and fully enjoyed our Nation's 50th Independence so lets have another GRAND CELEBRATION in 2013 to Honor our own Musical Invention and our Panorama which the entire Musical World would love to participate in . These are all Collector Items which I am sure would bring very good sales having this lovely Pic printed on them . PanTrinbago this is Business opportunity worth investing in . Thanks .

  • Thanks Ian for your invaluable info for indeed you are the main one who we can turn to for this type of Pan History. The various categories indicate how intense your documentation is and I know that it takes a lot of time and dedication to achieve this . It tells me that your LOVE for PAN is TRUE and from the HEART . Thanks a lot my Brother . New Year Greetings to you and the Family.

  • Thanks Bertel,
There are three things in the world; love, peace and pan. (lol) Will see you in 3 weeks.
  • Ian, Your information is precious to the Pan world. This is what will keep the Pan Culture ALIVE. Brother, just keep on doing what you are doing and make TRINBAGO even more richer in PAN.

  • Thanks Steve for kicking off the ball. Some observation: This will be the 51st Panorama Preliminaries, and these are my12 choices for most trivial but historical accomplishments. (1) North Stars/Mr. Anthony Williams is the only tuner that was also a winning arranger. (2) Cavaliers/Mr. Lennox Mohamed at 22 is still the youngest winning panorama arranger. (3) Starlift/Mr. Ray Holman the first to arrange their own piece and also place.      (4) Renegades/Jit Samaroo are the only team to garner 3 consecutive victories. (5) Phase II/Len Sharpe the first to win with their own tune. (6) All Stars/ Mr. Leon Edwards have the highest winning percentage 293 out of 300. (7) Phase II/Len Sharpe have the highest winning points 487 out of 500. (8) Desperadoes/Robert Greenidge the first to win on their first attempt at own tune. (9) Exodus/Pelham Goddard the only team to come back and win after being 23 points behind at semi. (10) Clive Bradley the only arranger to win with two different Steel Orchestras, and place in the two of the top three spots at the same finals. (11) All Stars & Desperadoes have placed in the top three 22 times each. (12) Len Sharpe arrangements have the most top-three (21).

Overall, from 1963 through 2012, Desperadoes has the most firsts. First to place 3rd, first to win under two and then three different arrangers, only band to win in the 70's with the least amount of players, first to win performring under "Canopies" not covers, first to win 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 times, and is the only Steel Orchestra to make 45 of the 49 finals.  You may be saying "what have you done for me lately." I will say consistency

  • Congrats T&T!!!  Pan, pan, pan and more pan!!!
