There is a palm tree in the background of this picture which suggests that it was taken in the tropics, most likely Trinidad. The type of window construction which allows for ventilation also hints at a non English location. The fair skinned tenor man looks ( to me) like Rene Figueroa who played with Dixie Stars and Tropitones, both Woodbrook bands of the early to mid 50's. However, the apparent use of a conductor in the band is puzzling. Help!
I will say that this photo was shot in 1951, England. This is one of the rare times that a photo of The Grand Master does not feature his hat. (lol) He still holds the following records.
(1) Most Road Marches. (2) The first Calypsonian to win the Calypso Monarch, Road March and have the winning panorama Steel Orchestra play his tune. (3) His tunes have been performed by more Panorama winners and have been played by more Panorama finalists. (4) He is the only one to have a winning panorama tune in the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. (all this because of a photo boy!) lol

Ian: My immediate "gut feeling" is that those are members of TASPO who attended Festival of Britain in 1951.
Just a gut feeling !!
