Raphael I would not compare Roxy on the Western Main Rd. Where many taxis pass, but those who travel do not walk out to Mucurapo Rd. or St. James as a walkway was created with steps to the Audry Jeffers Highway by where Phase 2 was supposed to be and those who travel use there and are out within two minutes. WHO IS THE RIGHT ARRANGER? lol I don't intend to open a pandora's box here, but he or she must be able to negotiate reasonably with the band's management and not call shots for them to put up with.
Gerard....Starlift yard is still hard to reach, given the routing of taxis, when compared to the ROXY YARD...but with the right arranger and a dedicated core of players..the LIFT will star again.
Ian, Ray was involved in 10 of the first eleven panorama finals. He did not arrange anything for the band Starlift or any other in 1965. The Kitchener tune Hold On To Yuh Man was done solely by the captain Albert "Philo" James. In 1964 Bullpistle Gang, he was part of a team so I guess involved but not solely.
@Cecil, You are absolutely correct. Desperadoes would have toted dem pans up and down Laventille Road as they had been doing from 1963 through 2008. but............. (lol)
On the other hand, I opt for innovation over tradition. I am probably the only one who agreed with Patrick Arnold/Pan Trinbago's decision in 2002, that removed panorama prelims from the big yard to the respective pan yards.
Money over Glory is my mantra (lol)
@Bryan if you were referring to me, I was commenting about the Starlift Steel Orchestra.
Everyone knows about Mr. Holman's 1972 accomplishment, and the tune also placed in the top-three
Ray is also the first arranger to compose, arrange and record. In 1960, he did "Ray's Saga" for Invaders
Ray is also the only arranger to be involved in the first 11 panorama finals
Ray is also the first one to win the Soloists Category at the Music Festival of 1964 as a pannist, and later as a Panorama arranger in1969
Ray is also the first arranger to place 2 different Steel Orchestras in the top-three at two different Panoramas
Ray is the only arranger that was present in 1963 as well 2013.
Ray is the only arranger to qualify a Steel Orchestra for the panorama finals in all 6 decades; he qualified 8
If you were not referring to me, well here is looking at you Mr. Ray Holman (lol)
