I remember all stars playing a tune in the semis and they were booed off stage barely making it to the finals Final night and it was a different all stars playing curry tabanca placing 2nd and which the savannah crowd thought they had won.
I remember Carib Tokyo playing Shadow's "Jump Judges Jump" in the Finals,I think it was 1977. They learned the new tune in about three to five days, but I do not recall what they played in the Semis. I visited the panyard when they were learning the tune. The arranger was Gerard Charles.
yeah, think Despers changed their tune after winnibg the injunction to "the tune that turned jeers to cheers". Many forget Jewel 22 also won a protest that year 1982
I'm not sure if I missed the comment, but I haven't seen Desperadoes being mentioned, when they changed to Nelson's Party after the Hammer filed an injunction to keep them in the finals
Sorry, I just saw that they made it to the final and then changed the tune.
Did Sunland make it to the final that year? If they did, how did they place?
It has remained quite vivid in my mind jumping with a band in Panorama preliminary (and it was semi-final at the time) playing, “Heroes Never Die.” The crowd was singing “We are heroes Sir Walter Raleigh, heroes never die.” Based on my recall, I was with the band as they turned left before the stage. I was very young at the time.
you guys sure it wasn't jericho from steel and brass
Solo did it and won, in 74 i believe, Desperadoes started pan in tune by terror in 72, not too sure if they playedit in the rama but changedto sparrow's rope
Comment on Sunland from Belmont dead right. The tune by Cristo had the crowd jumping for the semis, one of Belmont's proudest moments as we escorted the band back to the yard. The title, though, I think, was "Heroes Never Die". Why they switched for the finals I'll never know.
