Looking for Black Musicians
Potts & Pans Steelband is looking for black musicians to work with. We are looking to expand the band and have missed out on some opportunities due to not currently having any black members, so we figured we can accomplish two tasks at once by finding a great black musician to add to our roster.
If you already play an instrument and/or sing you might be able to jump right in and start gigging with us immediately on your current instrument (and still have the opportunity to learn steelpan).
For those that don't know, the steelpan is an instrument from Trinidad & Tobago. The steelpan was invented by Afro-Trinidadians and is the only musical instrument family to be invented in the 20th century.

The defense has to re-file their application for an extention of time, And S.N.S.E. will file an application requesting that the court reject the defense request, where the request for JUDGMENT has already been filed by Claimant as stipulated by the Court, and the defense is already in contempt of court, which should not be tolorated...
After the hearing, the defendent and his attorney approached us, attempting to advise us how to proceed, I can hear fear in his voice implementing that S.N.S.E. does not own the Patent; the Government does, I almost went into distruct mode; I had to restrain my composer, now the defense will have to prove how when and where they invented / designed the 4ths & 5ths technology, as our U.S. attorneys commence on filing a Class Action Infringment Law Suit, where Professor Brian Copeland patent his G-pan & PHI -pan using S.N.S.E.'s technology in the U.S. as S.N.S.E had already copyrighted said in the U.S. over 15 years ago..
After the Judges Chambers this morning, Copeland attorney approached us S.N.S.E. and Agent, advising us on how to proceed in this matter, to allow them in filing their defense, also implementing that the government owns the cycle of 5ths, or 4ths & 5ths patent, I almost went into distruct mode, I would have died laughing, because I knew when he Williams did it, how he did it, and why he did it... I'll give U a little when, in 1949 at the age of 18 goin on 19 years old, at the St James library on the corner of Bournes road, he was reading a book on the matimatical works of Pythagoras, Pythagorean theorem, this will be disclose in the book called The Oracle, a book on the works of Anthony Williams and the complete History, not (His Story) of pan...
Of course "rock" name has to be mentioned he assisted "skip", tuning all the tenors and piano pan, and after leaving Panam North Stars in November of 1963, he formed West Side in 4 months to take part in the 1964 Panorama with Bossa Nova Love, as the judges said that the tune was not a calypso, and 4 months later won the 1964 Music Festival, with Johann Strauss's "Roses of the South" WOW!!!, if that was'nt amazing what is?...I just found some footage of U coasting in West Side yard, I'll try to get U a copy of that footage...
Professor Copeland defense Attorney has untill June 13th 2014 in which to file another Notice of Application requesting an extention of time to file a defence... S.N.S.E. has to also file an application requesting that the Court rejects the defense request, where their grounds are, (1.)The amount of damages for infringment allegedly owned by the Claimant, (2.) No pre action protocol letter was served alerting him, the Professor of the Claimant's claim, which was mailed on October 10th 2012 that was returned December 12th 2012 opened,(3.) The Claim is frivolous and vexatious and cannot be sustained in that; the Claimant is not the proper Claimant in accordance with the CPR (1998) as amended, S.N.S.E. did not invent the 4ths & 5ths, that the Government owns the Patent,(4.) The patent has expired and is now in public domain for many years, and (5.) The defendant would suffer grave injustice if he is not allowed to defend this matter, whereas the Claimant would not suffer any prejudice whatsoever, This IS THEIR DEFENCE ...

Core refers to the three-five or six MAIN/key qualities from which the fraternity evolves, while Values are standards, and ethics speak rights and wrongs, acceptable and unacceptable, appropriate and inappropriate...
While recognizing the journey of this unique invention -- from whence it came to how it gained a marginal degree of recognition -- a major part of the 20th century was challenged/hindered presumably marred by the who, what, why, and evidently the where. Many would draw reference to mindset, behavior, personal hygiene, appearance (of many), lack of proper managerial, leadership and business skills, lack of proper vision, treatment of/lack of consideration for the instrument due to high levels of ignorance, criminal/corrupted doings, and so many other ills...its stigma so strong that cripples the easy moving-forward process.
The 'how' was the mesmerizing aspect, that if remained the biggest "secret" like that of the recipe for the Angostura Bitters (Trinidad & Tobago), the 1M-populated twin-isle may have reaped mountainous benefits that it still clamors for.
Seeing that the 'magic' has slipped out of our hands, what other aspects of 'pan' can we draw upon to maximize strength?
Everyone, and I literally mean, everyone, today, plays pan!
As the veil of scorn fades, the prominent ones or those that frowned have eventually realize that pan is an instrument, and a most significant one at that. People gravitate to quality, popularity, healthy uniqueness, worldliness...stardom, hence the reason why anywhere in the world the instrument is experienced, its players are celebrated, looked-up to.
Then, what could the problem be?

Ashley Cooper the Driving force of the now Defunct Hillside Symphony of Carib Street San Fernando Passed on to the great beyond last week. Was a Very strong man in Many ways...Physically, mentally and I must say Spiritually believing in what he believed was So. After months of sickness due to lung problems he finally gave up.
So much can be said about Ashley. He was Mentored in many ways by his Deceased father Clyde Cooper "DENTAL DOCTOR" of the south land. Rough and Tough was their MOTTO. he has left to mourn His Daughter, Brothers and sisters especially Kerry whom was his Main support.. He also left the Lady whom he cared for and who took great care of him during his illness. Good bye Man.He will be Buried today at the Paradise Pasture Cemetery.

Potts & Pans is proud to announce that the Great Lakes Steelpan Festival is coming back to Crystal Lake on April 12, 2014. After an incredible inaugural year in 2013, the Great Lakes Steelpan Festival is back and even bigger than before! At this one day only festival, attendees will have the opportunity to hear 7 bands from across the midwest, an 80+ piece steelband, and world renown educators and performers giving workshops and performing at the evening concert! There is no other festival of this nature and magnitude in the area, and it only comes once a year.

In 2013, Potts & Pans hosted the inaugural Great Lakes Steelpan Festival. The festival was a huge success and participants and attendees alike were raving about it for months to come. After taking part in the festival last year, Dr. Ellie Mannette (the inventor of the modern day steelpan) said “This group is the future of steelpan.” On April 12, 2014, the festival is returning to Hannah Beardsley Middle School in Crystal Lake, IL and is even bigger and better than it was last year! The 2014 Great Lakes Steelpan Festival (GLSF14) will be bringing together performers and educators from 7 states across the US. Guest artists include Gary Gibson, Freddy Harris III, Kurry Seymour, and Potts & Pans Steelband. GLSF14 is packed with free performances and educational workshops starting at 9 am and the day climaxes with an evening concert starting at 8 pm.
GLSF14 is the only music festival in Chicagoland specializing in the steelpan, the musical instrument from the caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago, also commonly called the steel drum. Throughout the day at GLSF14, attendees will hear music ranging from classical to calypso and even original compositions that were written specifically for this festival.
